New Orleans is the city that is considered the birthplace of jazz music. It originated during the time of slavery, when enslaved people on Sundays around Congo Square had the opportunity to sing and exchange their African music rhythms and dances with each other, while at that time in the city a European brass band tradition was also popular, which mixed with Cuban and indigenous influences. In this city, the genre has continuously developed from Ragtime & Dixieland through more traditional forms of jazz towards the early typical New Orleans funk. New Orleans is therefore considered, above all, a typical melting pot of styles. The city is to this day connected with the music genre, and even now new forms of jazz continue to emerge from this remarkable music city. The city has become a pilgrimage site for many musicians and music lovers when it comes to experiencing the various New Orleans music movements and the history of the emergence of jazz.
During these themed New Orleans Jazz Night evenings, you will be treated by Groovetop to an authentic New Orleans Brass Night, as they can typically and uniquely present in that region. It will be an evening in which you are carried away by the passion of the musicians.

Funky Jam Night: 

Music that is strongly focused on the rhythm/the groove of drums and bass, creating a hypnotic, danceable groove. Throughout all of this, there is a strong focus on the downbeat and the first beat of the music.

Jazz and blues harmonies are quickly alternated. Sometimes performed by large ensembles with brass sections playing sharp riffs. Musicians in funk music interact closely with each other, thus elevating each other to ever greater musical heights.

James Brown is considered one of the pioneers of this genre, but bands like Parliament, Funkadelic, and the Ohio Players also made significant contributions. Later, this genre became known through a merging with other styles more oriented toward pop, disco, and soul.

Well-known funk bands in this context are Kool and the Gang, Earth, Wind & Fire, and the Commodores, but the music of the Jackson 5/The Jacksons and music by Prince can also be classified under this genre.

In the jazz spectrum, there were also musicians, especially saxophonists, who’d be funk-oriented. Often, bands with an instrumental repertoire and a horn player who played the main melody emerged during the fusion era. Think of, among others, Maceo Parker & Fred Wesley, but also Candy Dulfer.

On this themed evening, Jazz from the country of the boot will stand out. From Tarantella to Swing, it will all be covered. With a stately poetic flair, like Paolo Conte, to a more sultry romantic repertoire like Roberta Gambarini.
Contemporary Jazz has many Italian stars and greats who have influenced Jazz up to the present day. At the same time, since the post-WW II era, Jazz has always had a major influence on Italian music culture. The sequences in Italian music have a characteristic progression and blend well with the common patterns of big band swing jazz.

This themed evening will be an evening of recognition, where a crossover will take place between the Italian popular song and the crooner jazz tradition performed by ’the most famous American singer with Italian roots’ Frank Sinatra.

The cradle of Soul Music is located in the Church. Music of “the soul” that had faith and worship as its starting point was the core from which many jazz and soul musicians found “the holy fire.” Many jazz, soul, and gospel musicians are indebted to, and have also remained faithful to, the source from which they make music.
This results in fantastic concerts with lots of fire, passion, and inspiration. These themed concerts place the spiritual at the center, and the music on these afternoons/evenings hopes to elevate the listeners to higher realms in a dignified manner.

Brazil is the country of ‘swinging Samba’, relaxed Bossa Nova, MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira), Axé, and Forró. Thrilling rhythms with pulsating and danceable afro grooves, alongside sultry Latin Jazz sounds. On these evenings, we take you to this largest country of the South American continent. Various music styles and all the big names of the Brazilian (Jazz) scene will be featured.
